I will prepare and some day my chance will come. – Abraham Lincoln
I don’t normally care about movie stars, but i do envy some, action stars really. I envy them because of the skills they learn; actually skills they are PAID to learn. That to me is the definition of the dream job.
A few editorials ago i mentioned how odd it was in today’s time to see someone who multi-tasks in their lives or abilities, whether that is being a boat captain and sculpture or a logger and a race-car driver. One person who is this way i can readily use is Condoleezza Rice, who amung her national security experience, and State department qualifications, she is also a Classical pianist. More on page 98

I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me.”-Abraham Lincoln
We’ve alluded to the fact, in these editorials, it seems humans like settling for second best. We claim we want a better mouse trap but really we really don’t want a better mouse trap, we want to not see the dead mouse. Humans over and over again make choices based on “profitably” and “little hassle.” This entire thing brushed into my mind to me as i listened to JFK. “We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”
When’s the last time we really did something hard? Is living a risk averse lifestyle so much better? I’d actually say yes, A risk averse lifestyle does not make you sedate or prudish, but, some risk are calculations meant to fight spending money.

Comments Off on On Being Location Aware
I walk slowly, but I never walk backward. -Abraham Lincoln
There are any number of stories about people misusing technology, but the one I like the most is the missuses of GPS and being location aware. You can Google the misuse yourself, but you’ll find people driving off bridges, into glass cases and all manner of silliness as they follow the lovely mechanical voice and “turn here.” But GPS will change your life if used correctly, specifically being location aware will change your life. Make that, Google and location aware will change your life.
One of my favorites is Google MAPs. It has a Faux GPS (triangulation on 3 cell towers) have saved me from concert traffic. – I looked up the map and found a main street 2 blocks down no one was using.- and was home before my friends even made the highway. Any number of times i’ve just picked up my cell, called up the map and then scanned to a location and looked around, noting the various routes to and away. I don’t need to know what shop or restaurant is there, just what street helps me to escape. More on page 96
