On Two Fundamentally Different Views

“You think slavery is right and should be extended; while we think slavery is wrong and ought to be restricted. That I suppose is the rub. It certainly is the only substantial difference between us.” –Abraham Lincoln.

What happens when you have two fundamentally different views on the same subject which both are ultimately right? For instance, Jack Welch (Neutron Jack) is considered in some circles as one of the greatest CEO’s ever, and in others as the Worst CEO to ever walk the planet.   His method, fire people until you get the right people, works.   Also, the method of people engagement, where you convince people to work better, smarter and for you, has also proved effective, aka Charlotte Beers, CEO of Ogilvy (among others) .  Don’t know the names, let this then be a Google lesson.

What have I learned then?  What does this all mean? Find your own speed, then find where you belong. Give it six months and if you have not made a single impact –good or bad- move on.   There is nothing you can do there.  More time has been wasted doing the semi wrong thing, than the total right thing.
