On Why The Manager is Really the Problem

I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what’s said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make […]

On Being the First

“I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me.” -Abraham Lincoln We are living in a renaissance, where everything that we know is changing and will change; in an era where all the old ivory towers are being assailed, no, lambasted with the fervor of the fires of our […]

On Words of a Poet

When i was young, my parents gave me this poem in a large poster that took up the side of my wall. I didn’t understand it and thought it was really …, weird. My surprise came where in my late forgetfulness of age when i found myself staring at the poem in my book of […]

On The Wisdom of the “Gut Feeling”

I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday. -Abraham Lincoln Humans it turns out, seem to have to be able to sense out something is wrong, but not always the ability to figure what is wrong; the reasons seems to be both social and a genetic […]

On Being Lazy About Religion

In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, and one must be wrong. -Abraham Lincoln I know someone who often says (i paraphrase) ” I don’t like agnostics because that’s just being lazy.” Yes, the Lazy is his word, not mine. He usually explains that […]

The Socio-Political History of Organized Religion, Part I

Executive Papers, Guest Post Comments Off on The Socio-Political History of Organized Religion, Part I

Guest Essay by B.R.

“All religions are equally sublime to the ignorant, useful to the politician, and ridiculous to the philosopher.” – Titus Lucretius Carus

How, why, and when did the concept of gods, and now a singular divine entity, watching over humanity come into existence? What role does this concept play in the formation of governments and their activities and how does it drive decision making?

For some these are questions that need not be asked, for the religion in which they believe and have placed their faith tells them that the divine entity of choice has been around since before day the first. Others, such as myself, can only speculate as we seek what we perceive to be more logical and rational explanations behind the origins of supreme beings, organized religion, and the like.

On The Subject of Music and Race

Commentary, Truthiness Comments (1)

Quarrel not at all. – Abraham Lincoln

let’s talk about race…

I mean…, music.

Rap tells a story, of where the singer is coming from, what they have lived thru and experienced, and the feelings they have, along with the circumstances that surround their lives.

Country tells a story, of where the singer is coming from, what they have lived thru and experienced, and the feelings they have, along with the circumstances that surround their lives.

Oh, there is more.

On The Digital Web and Friendships

Commentary, Life Lessons Comments (1)

I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me. – Abraham Lincoln

There are times in your life that your friends will be mad at you and there is nothing you can do about it. Further more, as frustrating as that is, they won’t respond to tell you. But are they mad, or are you not communicating in a way they will respond. This is more than a life lesson, it’s the truth.

Even as we get closer and there are ways to contact more people, we get picky about the way we do want to get contacted. Some of the people I know refuse to talk on the phone, texting is all they will do. A lot of people email, but not their parents, so talking to parents becomes a chore. I have a friend who emails me every month or so. I don’t bother texting, calling or even leaving twitter messages. Yet I know her Iphone is in her hand always and she’s checking it obsessively. It annoys me a simple conversation takes 6 months to complete, yet there is nothing I can do about, so I stick it out, because I don’t want to use the mediums she wants me to use. More on page 35
