\nA recent study noted that amung the baby Boomer generation (40+) 53 % do not use any social networking site. 22% use it while 26% may use it in the future. They had a nice little chart which didn’t really explain much but did show that older people generally stayed away from the “quicker” technologies like twitter, instant messaging, texting.
\n
\nWhat\u2019s interesting in these studies is the missing motivation of using these sites . Most Boomers, as they are called don\u2019t like spending lots of time on a computer, which is a requirement for social networking, however these same boomers cannot be pulled away from their \u201cconnected devices.\u201d (cellphone, blackberrys etc.). These things which allow them to stay in contact with other people on the go or their children or grand children.\u00a0 This is how people want to stay in touch and how they want to be contacted.<\/a><\/p>\n

It stands to reason that if their devices allowed such access on the go then they would also use them. What would be interesting would be the follow up questions: How many people would join a social networking site to keep up with a hobby, or their Children or Grand Children. I believe many people would create a site to match their cooking club, tennis club and other -outdoor- plans.<\/p>\n

The Technology to do these things are around the block. New Connected devices, from the Iphone to Nokia N-Gauge or the New Advanced Blackberry allow people to do more than text and email. The Browers is becoming the computer and the world.<\/p>\n
